ReptiTherm® U.T.H. Under Tank Heaters are an ideal 24 hour primary or secondary heat source for tropical or temperate reptilian species. All of Zoo Meds Under Tank Heaters are UL/cUL approved (GS/TuV/CE in Europe) and contain a solid state nichrome heating element. These under tank heaters permanently adhere to your terrarium, forming a solid bond for optimum heat transfer.

I suggest you be very careful with this product or any of the zoo-med heaters. The heater will need to be set on a timer and –Cannot– be on all the time or it Will get too hot for your reptiles. When you first set it up I recommend you checking every fifteen minutes or so to see how hot it is. If its too warm and uncomfortable for you then it could burn your reptile.
I didn’t check at first and apparently it got Too hot, the underbelly of my King Snake is burned and I am treating it now. The under tank heater is on for an hour max now, the lights have been changed to create a warmer spot without the zoo-med heater on all the time. I will say my baby is healing up quite nicely and I seem to have fixed to problem. Still, you should be very careful, especially if your snake likes to burrow as much as mine.

I have been using this heater for a few years and it works amazing, it keeps my snake happy and when coupled with a rheostat maintains a constant 70F. That’s right you need a RHEOSTAT. This, like EVERY OTHER heat pad in the price range, does not have a temperature control. A rheostat is only about $20 and is REQUIRED. If you don’t understand this you shouldn’t have a reptile as you will just cook it.
The one thing that I really don’t like is that it can NOT be removed without destroying it. I recently bought a new tank and thus need to buy a new heat pad.
Highly recommended for the longevity factor, but make sure you research even just a smidgen on how to set up a terrarium or you will kill your animal.
**Side note: In order to save all the spiders out there also, do not use this as a bottom mat if you have spiders. This will need to be mounted on the side of the tank for arachnids as they have a common tendency to hide underground if it starts getting to warm, and you will end up cooking it.

I have had this for a while and it has been connected to the bottom of my 30 gallon terrarium for my ball python. It is a glass enclosure with a thin carpet covering the bottom. I was told that this was the “safe” way to go and it could not exceed a certain temperature. So wrong. My snake enjoyed laying over it and I thought she liked it and it kept her warm. But recently when I took her out to clean her terrarium she had horrible nasty burns all over her belly on the lower half of her because her cave was positioned over the under tank heater. I took her to the vet and she had severe burns. I have to give her a bath 3 times a day for maybe 2 months and I have to give her a shot to protect from infection every other day. All because of this heater. I feel horrible that I didn’t know better and didn’t catch it soon enough. if you decide to get one, make sure you have a thick, protective substrate on the bottom of your terrarium, or place it on the SIDE of the cage so your pet does not get harmed. Or purchase a rheostat to make sure the temperature stays under control.
