  1. I bought this lamp to use with my turtle tank, to replace a lamp which did not have adequate heat insulation. I have been very pleased with the Zoo Med lamp. It was easy to assemble, easy to attach, and has a very convenient switch on the cord. It clips easily on to the side of my large floor tank and can be angled toward basking areas with ease. It also fits all the standard sized UV bulbs I have tried it with. A perfect, functional reptile heat lamp for practically any sized tank or reptile.

I bought the Zoo Med Deluxe 8.5in Porcelain Black Clamp Lamp for Reptiles in conjunction with the Zoo Med 60 Watt infrared heating bulb. The heating bulb worked great but the clamp lamp was a bit finicky. I used this to heat my cockatiels cage at night during the winter in a large room.

The polished dome and materials are all great. The cord was long enough for my setup and the switch is easily accessible even though I would prefer it a little closer to the lamp. My only issue with the clamp lamp was the piece of metal that connects the clamp to the lamp and also allows it to swivel. The swivel part is simple engineering but not very sturdy to hold a specific position. Of course hanging the lamp would be simpler if you have the setup for that.

If you intend to clamp the lamp to something nearby and angle it, it will work but just barely. I would prefer a more sturdy (and more expensive) method for angling the lamp at various degrees then what it currently uses. The clamp part that connects to poles or furniture is very tight, has simple rubber grips and the very large polished dome helps focus the heat forward.

Overall a little finicky, bare bone instructions with no pictures of the odd way it goes together, and the assembly that holds the lamp at various angles could use some work.

Good but not great. Still recommended to keep your pets warm.

Typical clamp lamp. It holds a mercury vapor Mega-Ray bulb, which is heavy duty, just fine. Although, I do tighten the clamp often to be sure it doesn’t loosen, which it does whenever you adjust the light’s direction.
