Product Description
The new AvianSun? Deluxe Floor Lamp from Zoo Med allows bird keepers to provide their birds with true full spectrum light, including UVB and UVA, just like they get in nature! This floor lamp is designed for use with Zoo Med?s new AvianSun? 5.0 UVB Compact Fluorescent Lamp. ( Light Sold Separately)This unique lighting arrangement will provide birds with safe levels of beneficial UVB and UVA for physical and psychological health. UVB enables birds to synthesize vitamin D3 for proper calcium metabolism which is necessary for normal growth, maintenance of strong bones, and egg production. UVA is visible to birds, enabling them to recognize mates, locate food, and identify different species. Without UVA, birds are essentially colorblind! The floor lamp is fully adjustable, and includes a built in reflector for maximum light output.

Ever since I got this lamp for the birds, they love it! At first it was as if they saw themselves for the first time. Since then they enjoy the light, they are happy when the lights are turned on and love to see themselves.

This lamp is lightweight and is fit for purpose. I like the fact I can easily move it around.

Cons
VERY cheaply constructed (probably will break soon and I’ve only had it for a month)
Not as tall as expected so I have to keep it on a stool just to tower my cage
My switch is broke so I have to plug it in and unplug it all the time
Cord is short (2 1/2 feet) so I have to have a small extension cord
Pros

Lamp instructions make assembly easy. Very flexible frame and small weighted base let lamp fit into small space. Some difficulty determining exact height as recommended; when bird is on roost, its head almost touches the lamp so I keep the lamp higher than recommended. Cord is short; probably will need an extension cord.
Currently this lamp is in use with a cage that allows lamp to stand on floor with bulb outside cage. In November, will need to move lamp to a larger aviary but the aviary’s “ceiling” is too far away from the top roost to allow the lamp to be outside the aviary. But the birds will roost (and poop) on the lamp if it is inside the aviary. Suggestions?
Perhaps a clip-on attachment for the [bulb holder/lamp shade] would let this be useful in the aviary.

This is great for bringing the sunshine in for your feathered friend when the sun hasn’t come up or if it’s cloudy outside. Turning the light off at night he understands it’s bedtime.
