I was very excited to test out this pet bowl for my pets. I have always had many indoor cats and one dog and now am down to one cat and the dog. I was able to test out and love the matching PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station Dog and Cat Water System with Stainless Steel Bowl, Medium. I have been using that on the floor for the dog and cat and clean it daily. I received a small food station and decided to use it on my 14 year old cat who eats off the kitchen counter. He had just a simple bowl before and I would feed him dry food in the night before I went to bed and more in the morning. Of course the days would vary on if the bowl was empty or not (old bowl). Like us, pets eat just a little or sometimes a lot. I would find myself filling his dish at least twice a day.
Now that I have the new pet station I don’t have to change out the food but once a week! It has saved me a lot of time! On the top of the unit is a removable plastic lid that you place the food into. Once you fill it to your desire you `lock it’ into place. At the bottom of the feeder is a stainless steel bowl which is very handy to clean. I was very happy to get the small size for the cat. It is perfect for him! He is a big cat and it fits his needs perfectly!
The other thing I really like about the feeder is how it blends well into the décor. It looks very pleasing to the eye. I have always trusted Pet Safe products in the past and they really have impressed me with great food and water bowls. I know it sounds like something simple but once you find one that actually works it is amazing!
I would highly recommend this product.

Call me old fashioned but when I spend the price of six pizzas some places on a dog/cat bowl I would expect it to be well built. I understand that it feels better when full of food but it just seems cheaply made for the cost. It does however work so I will compare the pros and cons below in a easy to follow format.
PROS:
+ Has stainless steel bowl that is removable (sort of, more details to follow) to allow you to clean it.
+ Has a semi-clear food “tank” so you can keep an eye on the reserves.
+ Can reduce the amount of times you fill your dog/cat’s bowl.
CONS:
- Does not have a switch to close off the food from dropping. This means you can’t limit your pets between meals. It also means when you travel you have food sitting out getting stale at home. But worst of all, it means you can only clean the SS bowl when you let the food run out unless you want a HUGE mess. Basically this means the best part about this system isn’t usable when you keep food in it all the time. So you have to choose between a clean bowl and keeping it full of food.
- Due to the design issue above, the entire container of food is always open to air, pests, etc. Which means your kitchen smells more like dog/cat food and you little friend is getting stale/soggy food.
- Build quality isn’t worth the cost. It is cheap plastic that doesn’t fit together as nicely as it should. It should also be weighted in the base so it doesn’t slide around as much when dogs try to get the last food (which means the tank is empty or near about). It feels like it should be half the price or less to be honest.

I received the medium feeder and tried it out on my medium and large dogs. Both of them are voracious eaters and I quickly realized that this feeder would never work with them, as they will both eat until they are sick. I then moved it to another dog who is a much slower eater and more in design with this product’s target. It worked for a couple feedings, but then I noticed that nothing was coming out, and food was getting stuck in the feeder. I was able to free it with a shake, but I doubt my dog would be that intelligent if left alone with it. I was using normal-sized dry dog food. The other thing about is since it’s a gravity feeder, food will always be in the bowl, inviting the opportunity for roaches and rodents, which love dog food.
As far as construction, I was surprised by how flimsy it was. The actual metal bowl is nice, but everything else is very thin plastic. The feeding container seemed only a little more sturdy than a milk jug. Again, it will depend on your dog as to whether this is okay. My medium dog continually knocked it over trying to get more food. The smaller dog was fine with it. However aesthetically, I did not like the way the feeder looked in my house.
Overall, this is only a mediocre product. I feel like there’s a lot of room for improvement in function and design.

We leave food out for our dogs all day long and they have always been able to regulate themselves… The product design is fine. It’s easy to disassemble and clean. All parts lock together easily and securely. The gravity feed mechanism works just fine. If you want a large-capacity, continual feed system, this one fits the bill perfectly fine. The real question is, will it work with your pet. That is case by case. Some folks have given a review based on how it works with their individual pet rather than on the merits of the unit itself. I believe the feeder itself deserves 4 stars easily. It appears that some excellent thought was put into its design. Here are a few things to keep in mind about your own situation…
> The food may sit out in the open air longer. This means it could go stale or invite bugs. Not a problem for us since we have two dogs and they cruise through the food fast enough.
> The gravity feed system may clog on occasion, so don’t rely on this if you’re going on vacation, etc. It is not a replacement for a pet-sitter.
> May result in bigger than usual mess if your dog tips it over, or decides to dig for choice chunks of food.
Overall, we like it and plan to continue to use it.

This feeder is large, easy to use and looks pretty nice. We have the medium feeder and use it for feeding a medium sized dog and it is large enough to only need filling every few days. The feeder does have a sturdy base so it can withstand a fairly determined animal trying to knock it over. The minimal, easy to clean parts are a nice feature as well. The only negative I can find is that while it should be durable enough for everyday use, it does seem a little flimsy. We’ve had it for a few weeks and have had no problems with it though. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a good-sized pet feeder.
